I was sitting at my computer the other day, thinking to myself, "Man, I love the internet when it's congested with blogs that make money by spewing bullshit about making money." Then I came to my senses.
According to Google, there are around 2 Billion pages with the word "blog" on them (link). Only about 200,000,000 of these pages don't contain the word "money" somewhere on the page.
Based on these statistics, close to 90% of the blogs you'll find on the internet seem to be the products of get rich quick schemes.
With services like "Pay-Per-Post" and a plethora of ad companies that spend thousands looking for new and creative ways to obstruct webpages and bypass ad-filtering services, the internet has become a cesspool of marketing bullshit.
So how do we fix something as irreversibly damaged as this? The answer lies in blocking all the ad bullshit, once and for all, without giving the ad agencies any opportunity to find a way around it.
The most efficient way to do this is to rewrite your HOSTS file so that the ad servers are never accessed. The only way ad agencies could get around this is to have the sites displaying the ads host the images-- costing them bandwidth and disk space and making advertising unattractive for everyone. Even if a select few websites choose to whore themselves out completely, it won't matter because we can just block those websites and not deal with their bullshit.
In short, everything on the internet sucks and the only way to cope with this fact is to block out all the insurmountable bullshit that poorly-written blogs and marketing agencies try to push into your computer.
(Update 1-12-2008):
I am aware of Adblock Plus. I am recommending the hosts file method because it can't be easily tricked by creative workarounds (The only way to get around it is to make a surplus of subdomains, domain names, etc.). Also, there's a website for blogs that don't make money.
